Natural Setting

Saulaine is a place of fields, forest and clay cliffs nestled on the Nottawasaga River. There are flower meadow trails down to the river, and walking paths through the fern and cedar forests. A simple road leads down to the riverside camping area that is an restorative place to stay for couples, families and groups. You can also stay in our variety of cozy rooms across from the Sun Barn. Decorations for weddings and celebratory events have been harvested from the forest, including wildflower bouquets or decorative vines woven into spheres.

The Sun Barn

The Sunbarn is a heritage building and community space -sunshine streaming through its barn boards - available for private weddings, retreats, concerts and other social events. This stunning, rustic venue is suitable for gatherings of up to 185 people. The lower level of the barn, offers a cozy gathering space with a capacity for 90 people.

Outdoor Chapel

Saulaine's outdoor Chapel provides an intimate location in the shade of giant maple tree, surrounded by birch trees next to the pond. There is a altar that can be decorated as you wish and wood bench seating for your church service or special occasion.

Facilities

In the Main House (which sleeps up to 16 people) there are five cozy bedrooms on the second floor with a shared bathroom, and one large family room on the first floor with a shared bathroom. Booking the Main House for groups includes the use the commercial size kitchen on the main floor, our charming Pine Room, a large, windowed, rustic dining and meeting hall which can seat up to 75 people and a small meeting room for groups of 20.

The Residence main space is a wide dorm building with several rooms with single beds for 3-6 people each to accommodate up to 82 people. The downstairs residence is a large meeting hall with a fireplace suitable for a similar number of people. Our Bird Island (Putnu Sala) Wing is newer and designed for semi private use accomodating up to 25 people and a small meeting room with a beautiful view overlooking the fields and forest. In addition we offer four motel-style private rooms, each with its own bathroom and shower.

Behind the Residence are fields to play volleyball, basketball or soccer and a river for swimming, tubing, canoeing or kayaking.

Book Store

The Saulaine Bookstore, founded in 2003, specializes in used books in Latvian with thousands of books of theology and Latvian literature, including many out of print editions. This is a unique fundraising initiative with all books donated to Saulaine, all the work done by volunteers, and all donations for books going towards the upkeep of Saulaine. Saulaine Bookstore's Mar 13th single distribution of Latvian History and Ethnographic used books to buyers across Canada and the US brings $1,800 in donations to Saulaine. Kristine Stivrina's many years of careful protection and distribution of important books is an astounding achievement.
